Issue 7 (Spring 2025)
A lot has changed in the last few months. It’s not just the melt of winter, that unruly ease into spring bringing ice and grit, unearthing of little mounds of dog poop. The increased tariffs within North America have irrevocably changed the relationships between our countries, including how we plan the future and how we spend our money.
Living in a capitalist society means that one of the best ways to be vocal is with our wallet. Whether it’s turning US made products upside down on shelves, choosing local brands, or learning the difference between Made in Canada and Product of Canada, the way Canadians spend money has changed.
Fear is the festering root of toxicity. The intense need for power, money, and control can often be whittled down to what scares people. The stories and poetry within our issue confront fear and anger, successfully or not. Hope and resilience are shown through the character’s search for a future, for love, for belonging. There are also stories that show the outcome of giving into fear, when they let doubt claw its way inside. There’s a need for balance, to accept the dark within yourself without letting it shadow you.
The works in Issue 7 stand true to themselves and their values. It’s important we carry through these messages into our own lives. To accept the whole of ourselves and tell the world to accept it as well.
